OUR GUIDE TO SKINCARE INGREDIENTS: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MORINGA OIL

In this series , we will take a closer look at “cult” skincare ingredients that have taken the industry by storm. Today we are going to be answering our usual 3 questions on Moringa Oil.

-What is it?

-Why does it matter?

-How should we use it?

WHAT IS MORINGA OIL ?

Moringa oil is an oil that comes from the Moringa OLEIFERA tree. This tree is native to Africa,  tropical America and tropical Asia, in fact, the world’s largest producer of Moringa is India.
Moringa, or ‘Drumstick’ has been used in beauty products for centuries. The oil was highly valued in ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt for its immense nutritional benefits for the skin and hair.
In Ayurveda (one of the world's oldest holistic healing & dietary systems from India), Moringa is also known as the “Miracle Tree” because of its multi functional properties as a food item (most of the Moringa tree is edible), a medicinal plant, and its ability to purify water.

If you want it, Moringa can probably do it !

WHY SHOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN MORINGA OIL ?

So are you wondering why you should use the oil from the most nutrient dense tree in the world? Yes, THE MOST nutrient dense tree.
For starters, Moringa is a rich source of powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals making it ideal for :

   1. Hydrating and protecting the skin

Moringa oil has a unique combination of fatty acids that have emollient and anti-inflammatory properties. Rich in Palmitic Acid, Moringa oil softens the skin and helps it retain moisture. Its high content in Oleic Acid also explains why this oil can help calm, balance and repair skin from damage caused by the environment.

     2. Revealing the skin’s natural glow

Being rich in Vitamins A & C means that Moringa oil can help keep skin plump and firm all the while improving skin texture for a youthful and smooth look.

    3. Getting rid of dark spots and fighting acne

Thanks to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties Moringa oil is a great choice when it comes to fighting acne. This oil helps purify the skin. It also regulates the production of excess sebum and prevents dirt and bacteria from clogging the pores.

   4. Combatting wrinkles and fine lines

Moringa oil is full of zeatin which has been shown to be effective in improving the appearance of ageing skin by promoting cell growth which in turn delays the process of aging. Its high content in Vitamin E also help in neutralizing free radicals that damage skin cells and age skin prematurely.

HOW TO ADD MORINGA OIL TO YOUR  SKINCARE ROUTINE?

1. As a face oil / moisturizer: Add Moringa oil to your routine :
- In the morning : Before applying you sunscreen
- At night : As the final step of your night time routine.

You can also add a few drops of Moringa oil to your favorite moisturizer.

2. As a hydrating treatment : Suffering from dry skin? Warm some Moringa oil in your hands. Apply to damp or dry skin. Massage onto skin using gentle strokes for hydrated, glowy skin.

When trying new skincare ingredients , never forget to start with a patch patch test : Apply a small amount to your skin ( on your arm or thigh)  to test for an allergic reaction before using it on your face.

Also, talk to your dermatologist if you have specific skin problems you’re looking to treat.
